    Malabar Boehmeria / Water Sesame (Rami Hutan / Shui Zhi Ma / Ni Ye Ma). Rainforest subshrub with tri-nerved serrated leaves. Sovereign for Acute Lactation Mastitis (Ubat Bengkak Susu): fresh mucilaginous leaf poultice dissipates throbbing breast engorgement, unblocks clogged milk ducts, heals boils.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • When applying poultice for mastitis, always keep nipple and areola clear and wash breast before nursing. Exceptional maternal, lactational, and pediatric safety profile. Highly indicated during lactation.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute puerperal lactation mastitis and breast engorgement (rapid transdermal cooling and anti-inflammatory action via Mucilage Polysaccharides >= 8.0% and Rutin), cutaneous furuncles and carbuncles, and phlegm-heat cough.

    Quality Markers

    Rutin >= 0.60%, Chlorogenic Acid >= 0.50% & Mucilage Polysaccharides >= 8.00% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. High-viscosity mucilage forms a soothing demulcent layer, surging transdermal dissipation of inflammatory heat. 2. Rutin and chlorogenic acid inhibit NF-kB and downregulate TNF-a and IL-6.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN RAMI HUTAN BREAST ENGORGEMENT POULTICE (Tampalan Bengkak Susu): 50 to 100 g fresh leaves pounded into a cold mucilaginous paste; applied over engorged breast (avoiding nipple) for 30 min twice daily. Cough decoction: 15 to 25 g dried leaves in 500 mL water.

    • 1. The Sovereign Lactation Mastitis Clearance Poultice with Taraxacum mongolicum (Pu Gong Ying). 2. Phlegm-Heat Cough & Bronchial Draught with Cortex Mori (Sang Bai Pi).
