Hollow-Stemmed Blumea (Sembung Rongga / Guan Jing Ai Na Xiang). Hollow fragrant stems with yellow flower heads. Sovereign for Relieving Bronchial Spasms & Gastrointestinal Gas: brewing the tea clears tenacious phlegm, relieves postprandial flatulence, and dispels wind-cold.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Aromatic volatile terpenes (do not boil excessively; short boil 5-10 min). High clinical and respiratory safety profile. Safe during lactation; moderate internal doses in pregnancy.
Clinical Applications
- Acute and chronic bronchitis cough with profuse phlegm (ciliary secretolysis and bronchodilation via 1,8-Cineole and Caryophyllene), functional flatulent dyspepsia, and wind-cold fevers.

1. 1,8-Cineole stimulates bronchial goblet cell serous secretion, thinning tenacious mucus. 2. beta-Caryophyllene binds CB2 receptors, reducing visceral gastrointestinal spasms.
Preparation & Dosage
THE SOVEREIGN SEMBUNG RONGGA COUGH & CARMINATIVE TEA: 10 to 15 g dried herb steeped in 400 mL boiling water for 10 min; taken warm twice daily for hacking cough and abdominal bloating. Traumatic poultice: fresh pounded leaves applied over bruises.
