    Sambong / Da Feng Ai (Sembung / Sambong / Da Feng Ai / Ai Na Xiang). Velvety leaves yielding crystalline L-Borneol (Ai Pian). Supreme Dual Monarch: boiling leaves in postpartum baths (Mandian Da Feng Ai) expels post-delivery cold, while tea dissolves calcium oxalate kidney stones.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Yields Natural L-Borneol (superior and less toxic than synthetic borneol). Avoid high internal megadoses during early pregnancy. EXCEPTIONALLY SAFE AND REVERED for postpartum external baths.

    Clinical Applications

    • Nephrolithiasis and ureteral calculi dissolution (inhibiting calcium oxalate nucleation and ureteral spasmolysis via Blumeatin and L-Borneol), postpartum confinement diaphoretic recovery, and primary dysmenorrhea.

    Quality Markers

    Natural L-Borneol (左旋龙脑 / 艾片) >= 0.80%-2.50% in dried leaves & Blumeatin >= 0.40% (GC-MS/HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Blumeatin blocks ureteral smooth muscle Ca2+ channels (IC50=5.4 uM), relieving colic spasms to pass stones. 2. L-Borneol crosses stratum corneum, surging peripheral blood flow for postpartum recovery.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE ROYAL DA FENG AI CONFINEMENT BATH: 100 to 200 g leaves boiled with Serai Wangi and Halia Bara in 6 L water for 20 min; bathe warm daily during confinement. SAMBONG KIDNEY STONE TEA: 20 to 30 g dried leaves boiled in 1 L water for 20 min (drink throughout the day with >2.5 L water).
