Traditional Edict
Fish scale centipede fern (Paku Ikan). Rhizome and fronds clear toxic heat, cool blood to stop uterine and traumatic bleeding, expel intestinal tapeworms and roundworms, and heal severe burn ulcers.
Cautions & Contraindications
- Adhere to standard doses for parasite expulsion. Contraindicated in pregnancy (mild pelvic-stimulating properties) and chronic cold watery diarrhea.
Clinical Applications
- Superficial thermal and chemical burns, intestinal helminthiasis (tapeworm/roundworm expulsion), profuse uterine bleeding (menorrhagia), dysentery, and atopic dermatitis.

Mechanism & Phytochemistry
1. Blechnic acid and phloroglucinols paralyze the muscular apparatus of intestinal tapeworms (Taenia) and nematodes. 2. High condensed tannins precipitate exposed proteins over burn wounds, halting fluid loss and accelerating re-epithelialization. 3. Antiviral membrane lysis.
Preparation & Dosage
Dried rhizome in decoction: 10-15 g daily (for intestinal parasites). Fresh fronds and fiddlehead shoots pounded into paste for burn wounds and bleeding lacerations: 30-50 g. Whole plant bath for skin rashes: 50-100 g.
