    Traditional Edict

    Annatto / Lipstick Tree (Kesumba Keling / Hong Mu / Yan Zhi Shu / Achiote). Spiny heart-shaped crimson capsules with vermilion seeds. Master for Prostatic Shrinkage & Diabetes: leaf tea inhibits 5alpha-reductase to shrink enlarged prostate (BPH) and unblock urine, seeds lower blood glucose.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Non-toxic at culinary and therapeutic doses (FDA/EFSA approved natural color E160b). Diabetics on concurrent insulin should monitor glucose. Safe during lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and chronic prostatitis (5alpha-reductase inhibition and DHT suppression), Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (PPAR-gamma activation and GLUT4 upregulation via Bixin), and hyperlipidemia.

    Quality Markers

    Bixin (红木素) >= 2.50%-5.00%, Norbixin >= 0.50%, Geranylgeraniol >= 1.00% & delta-Tocotrienols >= 85.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Leaf polyphenols inhibit steroid 5alpha-reductase type 2 (IC50=8.5 ug/mL), shrinking prostate stromal hyperplasia. 2. Bixin activates PPAR-gamma to surge GLUT4. 3. delta-Tocotrienols inhibit HMG-CoA reductase.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN KESUMBA KELING PROSTATE TISANE: 15 to 20 g dried leaves boiled with Misai Kucing (10 g) and Corn Silk in 600 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily for 30 days (shrinks prostate and clears nocturia). Antidiabetic seed oil: 3 to 5 g seeds infused in virgin coconut oil.
