    Indian Oak / Freshwater Mangrove (Putat Nasi / Jian Jiao Yu Rui). 4-angled oblong fruits with hanging red racemes. Sovereign for Pediatric Fevers & Asthma: rubbing a single seed on a wet stone creates a milky paste to quell childhood fever convulsions and dilate wheezing asthma, shoots eaten as Ulam.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Mature seeds contain concentrated saponins (do not swallow large quantities of raw whole seeds). Young shoots have exceptional dietary safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Pediatric bronchial asthma and whooping cough (5-LOX inhibition and tracheal spasmolysis via Acutangulic acid), chronic bacillary dysentery and watery diarrhea (mucosal tannin barrier), and roundworm parasites.

    Quality Markers

    Acutangulic Acid (尖角玉蕊酸) >= 0.60%, Barringtogenol C >= 0.50% & Condensed Tannins >= 10.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Acutangulic and tangulic acids selectively inhibit 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), blocking bronchoconstrictor leukotrienes LTC4/D4 to expand airways. 2. Condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte proteins.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN PUTAT NASI PEDIATRIC ASTHMA EMULSION: 1 clean seed rubbed on a wet stone slab with 2 drops ginger juice and 1 tsp breast milk/water (administered in drops for wheezing). Fresh young shoots (Pucuk Putat Ulam): 30 to 50 g eaten raw with rice. Bark decoction: 10-15 g.
