    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Stems possess sharp nodal spines (wear gloves when harvesting). High clinical and dermatological safety profile. Safe topically; avoid excessive internal decoction doses during pregnancy.

    • Centipede, scorpion, and snake envenomation (PLA2 and hyaluronidase enzyme inhibition via Shanzhiside methyl ester), Herpes Zoster (Kayap) and HSV-2 (antiviral DNA polymerase inhibition via Barlerin), and rheumatoid arthritis.

    Quality Markers

    Shanzhiside Methyl Ester (山栀苷甲酯) >= 1.50%, Barlerin >= 0.80% & Total Iridoid Glucosides >= 3.80% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Shanzhiside methyl ester binds venom PLA2 catalytic sites, preventing mast-cell degranulation and necrosis. 2. Barlerin inhibits HSV-2 viral DNA polymerase (IC50=4.8 ug/mL). 3. Anti-inflammatory.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN CENTIPEDE & SCORPION VENOM POUltice: 30 to 50 g fresh leaves pounded with salt into a moist paste; bound directly over bite site (halts neurogenic pain in 15 min). Herpes zoster wash: 30 g dried leaves boiled in 500 mL water. Tea: 10-15 g.
