    Traditional Edict

    Moxa Herb / Chinese Mugwort (Daun Baru Cina / Ai Ye / Qi Ai). Fragrant silver-felted leaves. Sovereign of Pure Yang Energy & Womb Warming: warms Chong-Ren channels to cure cold womb infertility, anchors restless fetus, charred (Ai Ye Tan) halts uterine flooding (Beng Lou), burns in moxibustion.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Use Raw Ai Ye for cold pain; use Charred Ai Ye Tan for active bleeding. SAFE and highly indicated in postpartum confinement, lactation, and threatened miscarriage. CONTRAINDICATED in bleeding due to Blood-Heat.

    Clinical Applications

    • Primary dysmenorrhea and pelvic cold syndrome (myometrial spasmolysis via Eupatilin >= 0.10% and Cineole), dysfunctional uterine bleeding (hemostatic coagulation via Charred Ai Ye Tan), threatened miscarriage, and moxibustion acupuncture.

    Quality Markers

    Eupatilin (异泽兰黄素) >= 0.10%, Jaceosidin >= 0.08% & 1,8-Cineole >= 30.0% in oil (HPLC Chinese Pharmacopoeia standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Eupatilin blocks myometrial L-type calcium channels (IC50=6.5 uM), terminating menstrual cramps and restoring pelvic blood flow. 2. Charred tannins activate Factor XII to halt uterine bleeding. 3. Far-infrared moxa heat.

    Preparation & Dosage

    RAW VS. CHARRED PAOZHI: Raw Ai Ye (3-10 g) for warming womb and dysmenorrhea; Charred Ai Ye Tan (5-10 g) for active uterine flooding (Beng Lou). CLASSICAL JIAO AI TANG: 10 g Ai Ye (or Tan) with E Jiao (10 g) and Dang Gui. Maternal soup: 30 g fresh leaves in egg chicken soup.

    Appended Prescriptions

    • 1. Classical Jiao Ai Tang (Master Uterine Hemostatic & Fetal Stabilizer) with Donkey-hide gelatin (E Jiao) and Dang Gui. 2. Cold-Womb Infertility Draught with Cyperus rotundus (Xiang Fu).
