    Malabar Catmint (Malaba Yu Zhen Cao / Karithumba). Aromatic grey-tomentose coastal shrub with purple-lipped flowers. Undisputed Sovereign for Dengue Fevers & Scorpion Stings: fresh leaf paste neutralizes scorpion venom, clears dengue viral chills, and aborts allergic asthma.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • In severe scorpion stings with systemic autonomic crisis, administer alongside emergency medical care. High clinical and respiratory safety profile. Safe in lactation; moderate doses in pregnancy.

    Clinical Applications

    • Dengue fever supportive pyrexia management, allergic bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis (mast-cell membrane stabilization via Anisomelic acid), and scorpion/arthropod envenomation.

    Quality Markers

    Anisomelic Acid >= 0.80%, Ovatodiolide >= 1.50%, Betulinic Acid & Essential Oil >= 1.80% (HPLC/GC-MS standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Anisomelic acid and ovatodiolide inhibit Dengue virus RNA replication and suppress pyrogenic cytokines (IL-6, TNF-a). 2. Inhibits mast-cell histamine release to dilate spastic airways. 3. Antivenom.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN KARITHUMBA DENGUE & ALLERGIC TEA: 10 to 15 g dried leaves steeped in 400 mL boiling water for 15 min; taken warm twice daily for viral fevers or asthma. Scorpion sting poultice: 20 g fresh leaves crushed with a pinch of salt applied directly onto sting site.
