    Marsh Pulai / Narrow-Leaved Pulai (Pulai Payang / Xia Ye Hei Ban Shu). Freshwater swamp tree with narrow leaves in whorls and milky latex. Sovereign febrifuge for swamp malaria chills, cleanses toxic heat, and draws pus from painful furuncles.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish from Alstonia scholaris (angustiloba has narrower leaves in swamp habitats). High clinical safety profile. CONTRAINDICATED in active pregnancy for high-dose decoctions.

    Clinical Applications

    • Tropical malaria pyrexia and intermittent swamp fevers (antiplasmodial schizontocidal activity via Angustilobine), suppurative cutaneous boils, and arthritic joint pain.

    Quality Markers

    Angustilobine A & B, Echitamine, Tubotaiwine & Total Indole Alkaloids >= 1.50% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Indole alkaloids (angustilobines, echitamine) inhibit Plasmodium hemozoin biocrystallization and reset hypothalamic thermoregulatory set-points to cool fevers. 2. Antimicrobial.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN PULAI PAYANG FEBRIFUGE DECOCTION: 10 to 15 g dried bark chips boiled with Hempedu Bumi (10 g) in 500 mL water for 20 min; taken warm twice daily for malaria chills. Topical boil poultice: fresh milky sap applied directly onto boils.
