    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Raw fresh leaf juice contains saponins and oxalate crystals (handle with gloves; boil before clinical use). High topical safety profile once boiled. Contraindicated in raw state internally.

    Clinical Applications

    • Pharmaceutical synthesis of corticosteroids (dexamethasone, hydrocortisone via Hecogenin extraction), traumatic external capillary hemorrhage, superficial wound granulation, and anti-fungal skin washes.

    Quality Markers

    Hecogenin (海考皂苷元 / 剑麻皂苷元) >= 1.50%-2.50% & Cellulose Fiber >= 70.0% (HPLC standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Hecogenin possesses a C-12 ketone group making it the ideal starting material for semi-synthetic glucocorticoids. 2. Astringent tannins and saponins cross-link proteins to halt capillary bleeding.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN SISAL WOUND STYPTIC & GRANULATION WASH: 30 g dried boiled leaf fibers or pulp boiled in 500 mL water for 20 min; used to cleanse weeping wounds and fungal dermatitis. Industrial extraction: specialized acid hydrolysis yields pharmaceutical Hecogenin.
