    Pointed-Leaf Myrtle / Sour Kelat (Kelat Asam / Jian Bao Pu Tao). Glossy leaves with long pointed drip-tips and tart astringent bark. Sovereign for Postpartum Uterine Involution & Dysentery: high ellagitannins tighten relaxed pelvic ligaments, halt chronic watery diarrhea, seal bleeding gums.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Do not exceed 30 g daily of bark internally (prevents spastic constipation due to intense tannin astringency). CONTRAINDICATED in acute early dysentery before toxins evacuate. Safe in lactation.

    Clinical Applications

    • Postpartum pelvic floor laxity and uterine subinvolution (tightening pelvic musculature via Ellagitannins), chronic non-specific watery diarrhea and bacillary dysentery, and bleeding marginal gingivitis.

    Quality Markers

    Condensed Tannins / Ellagitannins >= 12.0%-18.0%, Gallic Acid >= 2.50% & Ursolic Acid (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Ellagitannins (>=15%) and gallic acid cross-link mucosal proteins and enterocytes, halting intestinal fluid hypersecretion and sealing denuded ulcers. 2. Astringes pelvic connective tissue.

    Preparation & Dosage

    THE SOVEREIGN KELAT ASAM POSTPARTUM CONFINEMENT DECOCTION: 20 to 30 g dried bark chips boiled with Curcuma xanthorrhiza (Temulawak, 15 g) in 600 mL water for 25 min; taken warm twice daily during postpartum recovery. Astringent dysentery tea: 15 g leaves/bark.
